- What are the microscopic and macroscopic processes that lead to radiation belt enhancement and depletion?
- What can we predict with regard to magnetospheric dynamics during geomagnetic storms and substorms?
- Do we have the right to tools and understanding to predict magnetospheric dynamics?

Transport:

FLYING TO ITALY
The closest airports are:
1)    Turin. Turin has one airport, the Caselle airport (TRN). Turin is about 100 km (63 miles) from the conference venue, which is about 1-hour drive.
2)    Genoa. Genoa has one airport, the Cristoforo Colombo airport (GOA). It’s about 150 km (94 miles) from the conference venue, which is about 1.5-hour drive.
3)    Milan. Milan has two airports, Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN). They are both at about 200 km (125 miles) from the conference venue, which is about a 2-hour drive.

FLYING TO MILAN IS RECOMMENDED since it is much better connected internationally.

GETTING TO THE CONFERENCE VENUE

RENTING A CAR IS RECOMMENDED. Pollenzo is a small town and exploring the beauty of the area will require some (small amount of) driving. Nevertheless, we plan to have a shuttle service connecting Pollenzo with the nearby town of Bra (5 km – 3 miles) and Alba (15 km – 9 miles, Alba is the ‘capital’ of the Bassa Langa district and features many of the best restaurants in the area). We will post some itineraries for local attractions as guidance for attendees and accompanying persons.

We are planning to organize a shuttle service from Milan airport to the conference venue and back, on Sunday June 2nd and on Saturday June 8th. The shuttle service will be at fixed times in an attempt to group people together. Information will be posted as soon as available.

It is also possible (although it will take longer) to reach the conference venue by train.

From Turin airport (TRN):
1)    Take the bus from the airport to the PORTA SUSA Railway station. There is a bus every 15 minutes and the cost is EUR 7.50. The trip takes about 40 minutes. See http://www.sadem.it/media/6355/000268.pdf
2)    Take the train to BRA (TORINO PORTA SUSA TO BRA). There are many options, including some that will require changing train along the way. The trip that does not require changing train takes about 54 minutes and it is recommended. The cost is around EUR 5. See time tables at http://www.trenitalia.com.
3)    The conference venue is 5 km (3 miles) away from Bra. You can take a cab (but we are also arranging transportation with the hotel).

From Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP):
1)    Take the Malpensa Express train from the airport to the MILANO CENTRALE Railway station. It takes about 1 hour and the cost is EUR 12.
(See http://www.malpensaexpress.it/en/)
2)    Take the train to BRA (MILANO CENTRALE TO BRA). There are many options, the most convenient will require you to change train in TORINO PORTA SUSA station. The trip can take 2-4 hours and the cost is EUR 15-25 depending on the train you choose. See time tables at http://www.trenitalia.com.
3)    The conference venue is 5 km (3 miles) away from Bra. You can take a cab (but we are also arranging transportation with the hotel).
